What is CBD (Cannabidiol)?

January 24, 2019 by Staff Writer Leave a Comment

what-is-CBD-greenroads

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid found in the hemp plant. As we’ve discovered more about the human species as well as the plants that we, we’ve learned of the immense health value that CBD brings to the table. It has quickly become a staple supplement for millions who seek a natural alternative to dangerous pharmaceuticals, alien to nature’s perfect remedies.

Sublingual CBD Oils – also known as CBD Tinctures or CBD Hemp Oil – are the most popular type of CBD products, because of their high bioavailability and rapid absorption. There are many other kinds of products as well, including CBD edibles, CBD topicals, and even CBD-infused Coffee. CBD products have gained immense popularity in health and wellness circles thanks to their natural support of our endocannabinoid system (ECS).

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CBD?

It’s important to note that many of these studies were carried out in vitro (outside the body), or were preclinical in nature, reducing the reliability of the results. However, the chemical antioxidant properties of the CBD molecule, as well as its antiepileptic properties, are well-established in the scientific literature.

While research into the effects of CBD on specific conditions is important, a broader perspective on the relationship between CBD and the human body is necessary to understand how this unique compound works. Interestingly, many of the conditions that are supposedly helped by CBD have no well-understood cause, from acne to Alzheimer’s disease. However, one of the few common denominators between these conditions is the involvement of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in their causes.

The ECS is responsible for setting the baseline activity levels of our immune system and nervous system, which then work to maintain our health. When the ECS falls out of whack, the systems that are regulated by it can begin to malfunction. CBD promotes the normal health and function of the endocannabinoid system, so it’s possible that CBD can help to alleviate the symptoms of conditions that are caused by dysfunction of the endocannabinoid system.

CBD is the subject of thousands of studies and trials, carried out by various institutions to uncover the facts about this dynamic compound and its effects on our bodies. Some of these studies have looked into the effect of CBD on different conditions, including:

  • Acne / comedogenic (pimple-forming) disorders [ Study , Study ]
  • Antibiotic-resistant infection / MRSA [ Study , Study ]
  • Anxiety disorders [ Study ]
  • Apoptosis of malignant neoplasms [ Study ]
  • Arthritis / inflammatory disorders [ Study ]
  • Chronic/neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, migraines [ Study , Study ]
  • Epilepsy and seizure disorders [ Study ]
  • Neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis) [ Study ]
  • Oxidative Stress / Free Radicals [ Study ]
  • Substance abuse disorders [ Study ]

HOW ARE CBD PRODUCTS FORMULATED?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of 113 cannabinoids unique to the hemp plant. CBD is produced by the leaves and flowers of female hemp plants. Hemp is defined as all cannabis plants with less than 0.3% THC by weight. Because hemp has such low THC levels, it is non-psychoactive by definition.

While CBD can be extracted from non-hemp varieties of the plant, hemp-derived CBD is less restricted by the government because of its inherently low levels of THC. CBD from hemp is legal for sale in most US states, while CBD products derived from non-hemp varieties can contain noticeable amounts of THC, and are therefore subject to stricter laws and regulations.

CBD and other cannabinoids are produced by the hemp plant because of their unique aromatic and antioxidant activities, which protect the plant from insects, fungus, bacteria, and changes in the environment.

Where does your CBD come from?

All CBD products start out the same way: as an extract from the leaves and flowers of cannabis plants. At Green Roads, we only extract CBD from hemp, defined as any variety of cannabis plant containing less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. Cannabinoids and terpenes are produced by tiny glands on the leaves and flowers of cannabis plants known as trichomes. The compounds produced by these trichomes give cannabis both its rich aroma and its nutraceutical effects.

How is your CBD extracted?

In order to isolate CBD from the trichomes, Green Roads uses supercritical CO2 extraction, the safest and most efficient extraction method currently available.

How does CO2 extraction work?

Carbon dioxide is passed through the plant material at a very specific temperature and pressure. Carbon dioxide, which is normally a gas at (or above) room temperature, can be pressurized until it becomes so dense that it takes on some of the properties of a liquid while still maintaining the fluid dynamics of a gas. In this state, CO2 is known as a supercritical fluid.

Why do you use CO2 extraction?

CBD oil CO2 extraction works extremely well because each compound in cannabis can only be extracted by CO2 at a unique pressure and temperature combination, which makes it easy to control which compounds are extracted and which are left behind.

What makes Green Roads CBD so pure?

As CBD is isolated from the plant material and exits the high-pressure environment inside the extraction machine, all of the CO2 evaporates, because it’s no longer at a supercritical pressure. This leaves behind a solvent-free extract containing only the purest select phytocannabinoids and terpenes.

IS CBD (CANNABIDIOL) LEGAL?

Because CBD is non-psychoactive, it is treated differently than other products that contain detectable levels of the psychoactive cannabinoid, THC.

In addition, the FDA recently approved Epidiolex – an oral-mucosal spray produced by GW Pharmaceuticals with CBD as its active ingredient – for use in the treatment of intractable seizure disorders. This THC-free product set a new precedent for the medical value of CBD.

In 2014, President Obama signed the Farm Bill of 2014 into law. This law contained a section that removed hemp from Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act. It also created a legal structure that made cultivation and research of hemp legal in states that wanted to initiate “Pilot Research Programs” into the cultivation and marketing of hemp and hemp-derived products.

While Green Roads complies with the Farm Bill of 2014 and all other federal regulations, laws in some states are ever-changing. For more info about the legality of hemp-derived CBD products in your state, see the map below.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF CBD FOR ME?

While most supplements have a single recommended dose, CBD is different. The amount of CBD you take depends on your doctor’s recommendations and your own research into how CBD will work for your unique needs. In general, it’s smart to start with a medium dose of CBD. This way, you can increase or decrease the dose as needed. In addition, it’s recommended to start with one half ML (half a dropper) of CBD oil, because you can always take more if needed.

As always, consult with your doctor or a healthcare professional before adding CBD to your supplement regimen.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF CBD PRODUCTS

what-is-CBD-greenroads-img-2There are several different kinds of CBD-infused products that are consumed in different ways for different purposes.

The most popular type of CBD product is sublingual CBD oils and tinctures, which include CBD isolate formulated into an oily base so that it can be dropped under the tongue. These products are ideal for rapid absorption and high bioavailability.

Another popular type of CBD product is edible snacks, beverages, and capsules, which can be swallowed like any other food or pill. These products are perfect for people who don’t need a high dose of CBD, or who are more comfortable with a traditional method of consumption like swallowing rather than sublingual administration.

Topical CBD products are ideal for local application to an affected area of skin, muscle, or joints. CBD applied topically tends to stay concentrated in the area where it was applied, unlike edible and sublingual CBD, which spreads throughout the entire body via the bloodstream.

CBD OIL what-is-CBD-greenroads-img-3

CBD Oil refers to CBD-infused products that contain CBD suspended in an oily base, such as vegetable glycerin, hempseed oil, or another plant-derived oil. Sublingual oils are ideal because they allow for rapid absorption of CBD through the membrane under your tongue directly into your bloodstream. CBD Oils are available in both low and high doses, and droppers built into the cap make it easy to measure your proper dose. CBD Oils are the most popular kind of CBD product thanks to their ease of use and rapid effects.

CBD EDIBLES

what-is-CBD-greenroads-img-4CBD edibles are foods and beverages infused with CBD for oral consumption, and they are immensely popular thanks to their delicious taste as well as their soothing effects. From CBD fruit rolls to CBD-infused coffee, CBD edibles include a wide array of shapes, dosages, and mouthwatering flavors. CBD edibles offer an easy and discreet way to never forget your daily dose of CBD. Besides their fun and fruity taste and appearance, Green Roads CBD Edibles offer all the benefits of CBD in a convenient 30-day supply so you’ll never run out whether you need a short-term fix or long-term relief.

CBD PAIN CREAMwhat-is-CBD-greenroads-img-5

People looking to buy CBD creams will find the most effective and aromatic CBD lotions at Green Roads World. In order to produce the highest quality CBD muscle rub available on the market, Green Roads obtains CBD from US-grown hemp using CO2 supercritical extraction. CBD topicals are highly effective because CBD tends to remain in the application area when applied topically, as opposed to sublingual or edible products that enter the bloodstream and diffuse throughout the body. Green Roads CBD Pain Cream is a unique and potent CBD product, artfully crafted by a licensed pharmacist with more than twenty years of compounding experience.

CBD DAILY DOSES

what-is-CBD-greenroads-img-6Finding the perfect CBD Oil daily dosage is now easier than ever, thanks to CBD Daily Doses, from Green Roads. Cannabinoids like CBD interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system to produce their effects. This network of chemicals signalers and receptors is responsible for maintaining homeostasis of both body and mind. While it’s important to balance your endocannabinoid system with CBD, it’s just as important to balance your daily schedule, and CBD Daily Doses make it easy and simple to do just that.

The Super Bowl Isn’t Ready for Cannabis Commercials Just Yet

January 24, 2019 by Staff Writer Leave a Comment

the-superbowl-isn't-ready-for-cannabis-commercials-just-yet

Acreage Holdings, a multi-state cannabis firm based in the U.S., attempted to get a medical marijuana advocacy commercial in the lineup of Super Bowl commercials this year. Unfortunately – and somewhat unsurprisingly – the ad was rejected by CBS. According to Acreage President George Allen, he had hopes that the advertisement could “create an advocacy campaign for constituents who are being lost in the dialogue.” To Allen it seemed obvious that the most-watched televised event of the year would be a great way to get that message in front of as many people as possible.

“We certainly thought there was a chance,” Allen said. “You strike when the chance of your strike has the probability of success – this isn’t a doomed mission.”

This year seemed like the perfect opportunity for the first cannabis ad, seeing as how both teams playing in the Super Bowl come from states where cannabis is legal for both medicinal and recreational use. With the national opinion on medical marijuana – and marijuana in general – swiftly changing in the last decade to strongly supporting legalization, the timing seemed right.

There are two versions of how the rejection came to happen. According to Bloomberg, Acreage Holdings says the ad was cut after a rough outline was provided; CBS, on the other hand, claims that CBS News asked to see the ad and the company never provided it. However, no matter how it went down, the truth is CBS wasn’t planning on airing the ad.

In a statement, CBS said, “Under out broadcast standards, we do not currently accept cannabis-related advertising.”

On top of being rejected by CBS, the NFL also has the option to reject Super Bowl ads and considering their current ban on players using medical marijuana, it seems unlikely they would allow an ad advocating the plant to be aired during their biggest game of the year. While the NFL itself is not a fan of medical marijuana, many players – both current and former – support legal medical marijuana access, and many former athletes advocate for (and have stakes in) the medical cannabis industry.

“We’re disappointed by the news but somewhat unsurprised,” Allen told CNN Business. “Still, we developed the ad in the spirit of a public service announcement. We feel it’s our responsibility to advocate on behalf of our patients.”

Now the internet is calling out CBS for their hypocrisy, pointing out the several ads we are likely to see for alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs while refusing to let a company advocate for a medicinal plant. Perhaps Acreage Holdings (or another cannabis company) will have better luck getting their message out through the most coveted television advertisement space in the next couple of years.

Talking Aliens, “Nothing But Trouble” and More with Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi

January 24, 2019 by Staff Writer Leave a Comment

In December, we met up with Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd at Harrah’s Resort outside of San Diego, California, following a Blues Brothers performance with The Sacred Hearts band. They’ll be gracing our February Entertainment Issue cover — subscribe or find a dispensary near you to get the full scoop.

For now, whet your appetite with some conversations we had about “Saturday Night Live,” aliens and Aykroyd’s directorial debut, “Nothing But Trouble,” which we simply couldn’t fit into our cover story. (But don’t worry, there’s more alien talk in the cover, story, too. There was alotof alien talk. But that’s what happens when I’m in charge of asking the questions and a UFO enthusiast like Aykroyd is kind enough to indulge me.) Hit it!

Casting SNL with the Blues Brothers

When pressed to give their dream “Saturday Night Live” cast line-ups, including members from any year, living or dead, Jim Belushi has an immediate answer for me: “1976. That cast was the best cast in all of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and it included Mr. Bill Murray. That’s the dream cast, don’t you think?”

The 1976 crew also included his brother, John, as well as Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase and Gilda Radner, to name a few.

Aykroyd reflects for a moment, then answers, pausing between responses: “Well, outside of that one, I would say … Phil Hartman, Chris Farley …  Jan Hooks … and then I love the women today — Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and, of course, Kristen Wiig—”

“Tina Fey!” adds Belushi.

“That’d be a pretty good cast right there,” agrees Aykroyd.

Talking Aliens, “Nothing But Trouble” and More with Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi

Aykroyd on Aliens

Besides Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge, Aykroyd is perhaps the most well-known celebrity supporter of the Mutual UFO Network, or MUFON, and appeared in the 2005 documentary “Dan Aykroyd Unplugged on UFOs.”

I tell him about my history with sleep paralysis, also known as hypnagogic paralysis, and my interest in UFO-deniers blaming sightings on the phenomenon. Nonbelievers often claim that many, if not all, extraterrestrial experiences are a mere trick of the mind.

“I think in some cases it’s hypnagogic paralysis,” muses Aykroyd, “and people … just can’t move because they’re so tired and paralyzed, but I think that if you look — there’s a lot of cases where it’s genuine — genuine interface. And [aliens are] basically using a device to shut down your neurotransmitters and make you sleep. And they have the technology to do that. So I would say some are real, and some are just sleep paralysis … I was with a guy yesterday who told me about his experience, where he had the little creatures come in, and float him through the wall … I’ve never had that, thank god.”

Talking Aliens, “Nothing But Trouble” and More with Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi

One of the members of our entourage cuts in, wondering if most alien contact happens at nighttime. Aykroyd’s demeanor is that of a president during a fireside chat. He’s happy to answer, giving reflective pauses throughout: “Well … Lonnie Zamora was wide awake when he pulled his patrol car up to a craft and saw two creatures get out … Herb Schirmer, Nebraska highway patrolman, same thing … Voronezh, Russia … 700 people saw two different craft[s], two different types of creatures come down, and they were awake.”

The Cult Status of “Nothing But Trouble”

I tell Aykroyd I’m a big “Nothing But Trouble” fan. The 1991 commercial-flop-turned-cult-classic starred himself, Chevy Chase, John Candy and Demi Moore; critics panned the horror-comedy upon release, but in some circles it’s now upheld as an underrated gem.

“Oh, really?” he laughs. “Okay. Alright. That’s, uh — young people like that movie.” He’s clearly bemused.

Belushi cuts in: “Which one?”

“The film that ended my directing career,” Aykroyd quips.

“I [heard] the greatest quote from Bill Murray,” offers Belushi. “He said, ‘Directing a film is like stacking worms to the moon.’”

Aykroyd laughs: “Yeah, yeah.”

Belushi continues: “Actors, when they direct a film, they go, ‘Man —’”

“You don’t want to do it again,” Aykroyd finishes for him. “It was a little dark,” he admits of the film, “but it does hold up as a serviceable comedy. There’s some great moves in that movie, there really are.”

Talking Aliens, “Nothing But Trouble” and More with Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi

But they opened against “Silence of the Lambs” and “Sleeping with the Enemy,” he notes, adding, “And we opened the day of Desert Storm,” leading to poor box office numbers. “It lives on in video, and other forms—”

“And with Katie!” laughs Belushi, gesturing towards me.

For more with Belushi and Aykroyd, including their hopes for the Blues Brothers’ future, their perspectives on comedy today and Belushi’s foray into the cannabis world, be sure to pick up a copy of our February Entertainment issue.

Throwback Thursday: The Great Yosemite Pot Heist

January 24, 2019 by Staff Writer Leave a Comment

Mexican Red Hair Cannabis

If you want to look back and examine the past, you better be ready. Like it or not, the past is never past. Look back with aplomb and revel in it, good or bad. There are lessons to be learned if you can unearth them, if you can dredge them out of the frozen waters of your mind and guide them to the surface. Like the 50 bales of Mexican Red Hair hauled up from the depths of Lower Merced Pass Lake in the backcountry of Yosemite in California, extracted from a downed airplane in the winter of 1967 and smoked with abandon amid gassy fireworks at Camp 4.

Nirvana

To the victor belong the spoils. When there is no one left standing but yourself, you either take what is left behind or you leave it. Up to you. But you cannot repeat, cannot let good pot go to waste. No way. So you take as much as you can carry and run. Free pot, come and get it. Bales and bales. Just waiting for you to get your hands on it. Nirvana, right? Oh shit, yeah!

Throwback Thursday: The Great Yosemite Pot Heist

6,000 Pounds

The climbers living at Camp 4 in Yosemite during the winter of 1976 became aware of an airplane crash high up in the mountains at Lower Merced Pass Lake. A plane laden with bales of pot went down in the mountains on a drug run. 6,000 pounds of marijuana was stashed onboard. Or so legend has it. The climbers weren’t the first to find out, though. The Yosemite park rangers and the DEA learned of the crash and, before the winter got too severe, went up in a helicopter and decided to confiscate the contraband. Like the remnants of dinosaur bones, part of the wreckage lay strewn along the shoreline where the plane hit, then tumbled into the lake, sinking up to its nose.

The strand was littered with bales of pot, and the rangers collected these first and stashed them in the helicopter. Then, with chainsaws in tow, they ventured out onto the frozen lake and cut holes through the ice near the plane and managed, with the help of divers, to extract a few more gunny-sacked bales of marijuana. When the weather began to deteriorate, the rangers had to abandon their mission. But their job was far from over. More bales remained lodged in the submerged fuselage of the plane. They intended to return in the spring to pick up the remainder of the pot, thinking no one in their right mind would dare venture up into the backcountry in the dead of winter. The rangers left the wreckage and the two dead pilots in the ice and took off with what they had gotten. They stored the stash at the Yosemite firehouse, which also served as a jail, and went about their business as usual managing the park.

Lodestar Lightning

Some say the plane that crashed was a Lodestar Lightning PV-1 Ventura. Others say it was a Howard 500. Seems no one really knows. Myth has a way of verging into truth, and vice versa. Regardless, the aircraft originated in the Baja in Mexico, bound for the Black Rock Deserta hundred or so miles from Reno, Nevada. When the starboard engine fell off as the pilots throttled up over a ridge in the High Sierra, the plane soon followed the engine and crashed into the lake.

Throwback Thursday: The Great Yosemite Pot Heist

Dope Lake

The Stonemasters found out about the crash and the incredible amounts of pot stashed inside the plane. So after the rangers had finished, they began to make trips up into the high country. Being top climbers in top shape, they were well-conditioned to survive the inclement winter weather. Still, the winter had been warmer than usual, and this helped them in their quest to score the bales of pot. After their first visit, they consequently named Lower Merced Pass Lake “Dope Lake.” Trip after trip, in secrecy, saw them haul back bales of pot out of the backcountry. Some say 200 bundles of the magic stuff was removed, each weighing around 50 pounds.

The Heist Masters

The Stonemasters had to cut through the ice after they reached their destination. The holes the rangers had cut were now frozen shut. Using ice axes — and regular axes — they got through and were able to pull out bales from the fuselage. The going was rough, though. Airplane fuel saturated the water around the plane. One by one, the bales were removed and taken back down to Camp 4, hidden carefully where the authorities couldn’t find them — if they came looking. Which they didn’t.

The Yosemite Gold Rush

Most of the climbers, if not all, were dirt poor. Some of the Stonemasters called themselves the Dirtbags. But they reveled in their poverty, throwing off all pretense about money, choosing to live like they lived — out on the edge. Questioning authority at every turn. This is where they wanted to be — in Camp 4, not beholden to society at large. Still, money is money, money is power and money buys material goods such as climbing gear, which is expensive. Money also buys time, as well. Some of the climbers took their pot and went down to LA and San Francisco, where they sold their wares. With their newfound wealth, some ended up buying houses, others used it for college tuition, some gave it away. Others smoked their shares down to the sticks and were left with nothing except the experience, which, to them, was the whole point of the operation.

Throwback Thursday: The Great Yosemite Pot Heist

Fire-Brewed Pot

When they got the pot down off the mountain, they of course partook of the stash, the Mexican Red Hair, blowing the tops of their heads off in more ways than one. More than a few of the bales were saturated with airplane fuel, but that didn’t stop the Stonemasters from having their due. When they lit up, the joints would sometimes explode or flare up, singeing the smokers’ hair and beards. The pot tasted of gasoline and tar, but this didn’t thwart the Dirtbags. It still got you off, adding to the wild experience of living on the edge, living around the campfire, partying with friends. Or attached to a rope on the vertical walls 2,000 feet up on the Dawn Wall of El Capitan, lighting up the fuel-laden joints that exploded around their heads. From the base you could look up and see the flares, and you knew they were having a good time.

Smoke it if You Can

No one was ever caught or prosecuted. The rangers never found the climbers’ stash. By the time they learned the bales were missing, the climbers had already smoked or sold it. The Stonemasters had beaten the rangers and the DEA at their own game. To the Dirtbags belong the spoils of a good high — and the money to go along with it. Like a pirate wreckage plundered by the inhabitants of a coastal town in the 1600s, the plane was stripped of the contraband and distributed among those at Camp 4. They dared to look down into the icy waters and find fortune smiling back at them in bale after bale of Mexican Red Hair, ready and waiting to be smoked or sold. It is as true today as it was back then. The past is never past. Go and smoke it — if you dare.

Alien Rock Candy by Meraki Gardens

Meraki Gardens’ Alien Rock Candy could be from another world, it’s that spectacular. I was mesmerized by the flowers and their brilliant trichomes that sparkled like diamonds in the candlelight. I found the aroma sweet and seductive, luring me into an evening of relaxation and euphoria. The inhale was smooth, the exhale equally so. The buzz crept from my fingers and toes to my hands and feet, up my arms and legs, then centered in my chest and bubbled up into my head. The cold rain was pouring outside, but I was warm by the fire inside — and I was sooo high!

Milk Chocolate Happy Peanuts: Tasty Treats Ideal for Unwinding

January 24, 2019 by Staff Writer Leave a Comment

Milk Chocolate Happy Peanuts by Wave Edibles

I ate one 10mg THC square of Wave Edibles’ Milk Chocolate Happy Peanuts before embarking on a long walk through the woods and let the confection melt in my mouth for as long as possible. It tasted rich and milky without being overly sweet, and the peanut bits added a welcome crunchy complexity. The aftertaste came with a lingering fragrant note of cannabis — along with the sealed packaging, the only minor giveaway this is anything other than a typical artisan chocolate.

There was never a moment where this edible decisively kicked in, but after an hour and a half I noticed my head and body feeling more relaxed than they had the past few days. This absence of anxiety and knots in my stomach was subtle overall but long-lasting, enabling me to better focus on the present.

Urban Pharm: Where the Fun Times Roll

January 24, 2019 by Staff Writer Leave a Comment

Urban Pharm – San Francisco, CA

Entering Urban Pharm feels like hopping into a steampunk time machine; edgy design can be seen in wall detail metalwork, hearkening to a fantastical era. This time portal re-envisioned Urban Pharm into a recreational cannabis store, as well as one of the longest-running San Francisco torch clubs. I browsed high-quality product, then took a moment to check out a bong and test some oil on an e-nail. “We want this to be a safe place for you to purchase and consume your cannabis,” says manager and marketing specialist Andrew Garcia. It’s a well-stocked inner-city cannabis club with a welcoming vibe. One could be in-and-out or stay a while. They host events like Comedy Night Thursdays and Ladies Night Fridays — the latter of which offers dollar dabs for all!

Urban Pharm - San Francisco, CA

The People

Walking into their lounge in the morning, I overheard fresh ideas brewing. Urban Pharm is a therapeutic hub for artists, startup employees, construction workers and law figures, to name a few. Consultants are attentive. They only recommend products they would consume themselves or recommend to a loved one.“We try to keep the vibe in here like ‘Cheers,’ where everyone knows your name, but if we don’t, we’ll make you feel like we do,”declares Garcia. He invited me to visit Thursday’s comedy night, where I watched the pressure of a mellow crowd cook some entertainers, while others were stand-up professionals. The activity encouraged people to get to know one another and customers at the counter to stay a little longer.

Urban Pharm - San Francisco, CA

The Product

Urban Pharm carries strains appealing to connoisseurs, but people who prefer reliable, popular growers like Northern Emeralds and FloraCal can find their go-to brands here as well. Their house grower, North Country Farms, grew Wedding Cake, a strain testing in at an extremely high 38 percent THC! It sold out within a couple days. The club is focused on terpenes and offers an outstanding concentrate selection. There is something for everyone at Urban Pharm, from encouraging self-care to caring for beloved pets.

Although there are many uncertainties surrounding the issue of marijuana law reform, there are some things we can be absolutely certain of. Federal-level reform is a must in the U.S.; that is one certainty. Another certainty is that 2019 is the best year yet to actually accomplish federal cannabis law reform.

Without a change in federal law, whatever states do in regards to changing cannabis policy will always be in imminent danger. Lawmakers will always use federal law as an excuse to do as little as possible.

Fortunately there is a group of stalwarts in the U.S. Congress that fight for progress on the marijuana law reform front. The Congressional Cannabis Caucus lost a couple of founding members with the departures of Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) and Jared Polis (D-CO) from the House of Representatives, but added new blood with the addition of Representatives Barbara Lee (D-CA) and David Joyce (R-OH).

“The Cannabis Caucus was the first of its kind to create a forum for elected officials to collaborate on ways to address our outdated federal marijuana laws,” said Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), another founding member of the caucus. “Congress is clearly out of step with the American people on cannabis when national support for federal marijuana legalization is at an all-time high and we saw several states move toward with legalization last November.”

Rep. Blumenauer – with the help of NORML – has made it easy for you to send a letter to your Representative that urges them to join the Cannabis Caucus. NORML and the Oregon Representative have also collaborated on several events designed to spread knowledge about cannabis.

“In the last session of Congress, NORML hosted a number of events in cooperation with our Cannabis Caucus, including regular policy briefings and bringing in unique perspectives such as travel writer Rick Steves, former US Attorneys Barry Grissom and Bill Nettles, and victims of criminalization as part of the inaugural Caucus event entitled ‘The Faces of Prohibition,’” Blumenauer said in an email press release. “Additionally, in a strong demonstration of grassroots advocacy, hundreds of NORML members who traveled from all around the country to meet with their federal officials moved us ever closer to our goals.”

Getting back to certainties, here’s another one: things move quickly when it comes to who holds power in Washington D.C. Every opportunity to advance cannabis legislation must be seized, and 2019 is a year that a lot can get done.
